Travel The World With Friends You Haven't Met Yet
Located in the quietest part of Hope Valley, join your group as you traverse the surrounding hills and learn the basics of outdoor photography as you go.
Arrive in the Peak District for a weekend overnight stay, an adventure lodge nestled deep in Hope Valley. Join Ian and your colleagues for a drink and beer at night before bed. Since dinner is not included tonight, be sure to buy something from Hope or Castleton before you arrive.
Start the day with a quick chat over breakfast so Ian can understand what you want to achieve over the weekend - no doubt too small an adventure and weekends are your chance to test yourself out. You will then leave the hills and start learning to build, the shed is at the foot of the big ridge, such a perfect desert location.
Ian will provide a range of toolkits for you to discuss and share how to use the right maps and apps for your outdoor pursuits - from a weekend trip closer to home to a trip further afield abroad. . You'll return to the shed in the late afternoon for sunset photography (weather permitting) before heading to one of Castleton's local pubs for a well-deserved pint and dinner.
Outdoor Travel Boom Shifts To Slow, Immersive Experiences And More Glamping
Another day of exploring and learning - possibly including an easy descent to the top of Mam Tor and a 360 degree view of the Edale Valley with Kinder Scout. Today you'll put some of the skills you've learned earlier into practice, trying out the key skills of navigating a team, understanding contours and how to anticipate obstacles and challenges as you move forward, and scheduling travel time and pace. The weekend ends in the late afternoon, and you can go home with all the skills you need to plan your own future adventures. You might end up channeling your sweetheart before you know it!
The breakfast provided will be a hearty vegetarian one - oatmeal, fruit and anything else to fuel you for the day ahead. Tea/coffee making facilities are available on site. Local cafes will provide packed lunches, and you can choose what you want to eat the night before. You shouldn't miss meals, but if you know you'll be extra hungry throughout the day, bring extra snacks. Dinner on the first day is not included, so prepare something before your arrival. Dinner the next day will be served at a local pub.
Vegetarians, vegans and most other dietary requirements can be accommodated, just let the host know when booking.
The group will have exclusive use of a shed near Castleton. The whole team will sleep upstairs in a hybrid, open plan, flexible futon sleeping space. Cotton sheets, down comforters and pillows are provided. The ground floor houses the kitchen, dining and social gathering space, shower rooms and shared storage. There's also a boot with a dryer and plenty of hanging space (if wet gear is desired). The outdoor garden features seating and fireplace areas and views of Lose Hill.

The Bunkhouse is a 15-minute walk from Hope Station, with easy access to Sheffield or Manchester mainline trains (both around 2 hours from London).
On the first day, you can arrive anytime after 8pm and Ian will meet you there. Make sure you have dinner before your arrival. On day 3, you will be back at the hostel around 16:00, please do not book your train before 17:00 in case you will be on the mountain longer than planned.
For those driving, there are only one or two spaces in the workshop, so it is recommended to park in Hope or Castleton, there are more options there.

The Peak District Adventure Workshop is an amazing weekend adventure. Ian Finch is an absolutely brilliant host and knows his tricks of adventure very well. I really enjoy hiking and the beautiful scenery, and I love learning how to navigate, how to pitch a tent, and what gear to bring on different hikes. I also really enjoyed the photography part of the trip. I would definitely recommend this workshop to other beginner adventurers like myself 😊
Ian was warm, friendly, experienced and an excellent guide for the weekend. The content is exactly as described and very useful. The ride was sustainable, the group dynamics were excellent, and you always felt safe and looked after by Ian, even through sudden changes in extreme weather conditions and difficult terrain. I wouldn't change anything about this trip. highly recommended!
It was an inspiring, informative and above all fun weekend. The arrangement has an "upscale youth hostel" feel to it. The food is healthy and plentiful. The course is the perfect balance of theory and practice - you'll learn how to plan your dream adventure, then get your expedition gear before embarking on two hikes to improve your navigation and photography skills.
But what really made these 48 hours memorable was Ian, the guide and host. He has a wealth of hard-won experiences and great ideas for adventure, and he shares them with others with infectious enthusiasm. Plus, they offer a lot of really thoughtful touches - from brownies and wine when you first arrive, to badges when you leave.
Days Lake Como Itinerary For Those Without A Car In 2023
Great trip, great hosts. It's not a complete "go/go" until you give up. Good balance of education/skills and hiking. Back to pop with a new look! !
I really enjoyed the tour, Ian was very friendly, knowledgeable and able to answer any questions I had.
I especially like the hiking and sailing exercises on top of them, but all aspects of the weekend are very helpful in giving you an overview of how to get the most out of your planned trip.
The food is delicious and plentiful, and the accommodation is warm and comfortable. I would recommend this to anyone who has a dream trip idea but wants the knowledge and skills to make that dream a reality!
Retreat Leaders' Insurance Needs
My husband and I had a great time at the Adventure Skills Weekend hosted by Ian and Jamie. The weekend was well paced, with plenty of time for discussion and consideration, as well as exploring the beautiful Peak District. Both Ian and Jamie are very approachable, knowledgeable and clearly have a passion for all things adventurous. It was a very inspiring weekend and sparked many ideas for our own adventures.
We crunched the numbers, calculated the total carbon footprint of the trip, and planted enough trees to pull twice as much carbon from the atmosphere.
Emits an average of 31kg of CO2 per person, including all local transport, accommodation, meals, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing not covered right now is flights and travel to destinations. We do an overall estimate for all of our customers individually, but since we don't book flights and our customers come from all over the world and don't have a reliable idea of their travel plans, we simply can't give a specific travel plan like the one pictured. We aim to fix this by 2023 so you can find a way to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of your flights when you book.
Singapore Vtl Countries: 7 Bucket List Worthy Experiences To Cure Your Wanderlust
Our travel is relatively low carbon and we work with all our hosts to develop long-term carbon reduction plans. Since 2016, we've planted enough trees for everyone who booked through us to absorb at least twice as much carbon into the atmosphere as travel emits. All native trees are part of an amazing project to reforest degraded land, address the biodiversity crisis, and at the same time support local communities. Beyond that, we fund reintroduction projects around the world to help protect keystone species from extinction. Check out the reforestation and reforestation programs we support. See our Carbon Action Plan.
Surprisingly, to our knowledge, no international travel company has disclosed its carbon footprint to date. We believe this situation needs to change rapidly. So we openly share the methods we use in the hope that it will be easier for other companies to follow and build on what we have done so far. You will find everything here.
